Industrial Video Monitoring Solutions

Embedded Video Solutions for Industrial Equipment, Inspection and Remote Monitoring

Industrial equipment often requires reliable video monitoring for machine operation, production processes, inspection, maintenance and remote supervision.

onVon provides embedded video encoder and decoder solutions that allow cameras and video sources to be integrated into industrial Ethernet and IP-based systems.

Our solutions can convert CVBS, HDMI, SDI and USB camera video into IP video streams, allowing video to be transmitted over Ethernet networks, industrial networks or IP-based wireless systems.

For OEM and industrial equipment manufacturers, our compact encoder and decoder boards can also be integrated directly into the customer’s equipment.

Industrial Video Monitoring Architecture

A typical industrial video monitoring system can be built around a simple architecture:

Industrial Camera → Video Encoder → Ethernet / IP Network → Monitoring System

Depending on the application, the receiving side can be:

  • Industrial PC
  • NVR
  • Video management software
  • Video decoder
  • Control room display
  • Customer-developed software
  • Remote monitoring platform

For remote applications, an IP wireless communication system can also be added between the encoder and receiving system.

Camera → Video Encoder → Ethernet → Wireless IP Link → Ethernet → Decoder / PC

This provides a flexible way to transmit industrial video without requiring a dedicated video cable between the equipment and monitoring station.

Industrial Video Monitoring Applications

Machine Monitoring

Video can provide operators with a direct view of machines and equipment during operation.

Typical applications include:

  • Machine operation monitoring
  • Equipment status monitoring
  • Production process monitoring
  • Machine maintenance
  • Remote troubleshooting
  • Operator assistance

A compact video encoder can be installed inside or near the equipment and provide an IP video stream to an industrial PC or monitoring system.

Production Line Monitoring

Industrial cameras can be used to monitor production lines and manufacturing processes.

A typical system can be:

Industrial Camera → Video Encoder → Ethernet → Monitoring PC / NVR

The video stream can be recorded, displayed in real time or integrated into a larger production monitoring system.

Multiple cameras can also be connected to the same network, depending on the system architecture.

Remote Equipment Monitoring

Some industrial equipment operates in locations where continuous physical supervision is difficult.

IP video allows operators to monitor equipment remotely.

Examples include:

  • Outdoor equipment
  • Remote machinery
  • Industrial facilities
  • Utility equipment
  • Field equipment
  • Unattended systems

The video encoder converts the camera signal into an IP stream that can be transported through an Ethernet or IP communication network.

Industrial Inspection

Video is often required for visual inspection of equipment, components and production processes.

Applications may include:

  • Visual inspection
  • Equipment inspection
  • Process inspection
  • Maintenance inspection
  • Remote inspection
  • Quality monitoring

The video can be viewed locally or transmitted to another location for analysis.

For applications requiring image processing, the IP stream can also be received by a computer or customer-developed software system.

Video Interfaces for Industrial Systems

Different industrial systems use different camera interfaces.

onVon provides video encoder platforms for several common video sources.

CVBS Camera to IP

Legacy or existing analog cameras can be connected to an IP network using a CVBS-to-IP encoder.

CVBS Camera → Encoder → H.264 / H.265 → Ethernet

This is useful when customers want to upgrade an existing video system without replacing all of the installed cameras.

Typical applications include:

  • Existing industrial cameras
  • Analog inspection cameras
  • Legacy monitoring systems
  • CCTV equipment
  • Embedded industrial equipment

HDMI Camera to IP

HDMI cameras and video sources can be converted into IP video streams.

HDMI Camera → HDMI Encoder → Ethernet / IP

This can be used for:

  • Industrial inspection
  • Machine monitoring
  • Display systems
  • Embedded equipment
  • Remote video monitoring

SDI Camera to IP

For systems using SDI cameras, an SDI video encoder can convert the video signal into an IP stream.

SDI Camera → SDI Encoder → Ethernet / IP

This provides a way to integrate SDI video into an IP-based industrial video system.

USB Camera to IP

USB UVC cameras can also be integrated into network video systems using a compatible USB camera encoder.

USB Camera → USB Encoder → Ethernet → IP Network

This can be useful for compact industrial equipment and embedded systems where a USB camera is already being used.

Industrial Ethernet Video Transmission

Ethernet provides a convenient method for connecting industrial cameras and monitoring equipment.

A video encoder can convert the camera signal into compressed digital video and transmit it through an Ethernet network.

Typical architecture:

Camera → Encoder → Ethernet Switch → Industrial PC

or:

Camera → Encoder → Ethernet → NVR

The same IP network can potentially carry video together with other digital equipment and system data, depending on the customer’s network architecture.

Low-Latency Industrial Video

Some industrial applications require video with minimal delay.

Low latency can be important for:

  • Remote machine operation
  • Robotics
  • Remote inspection
  • Industrial control
  • Vehicle monitoring
  • Operator assistance
  • Wireless video transmission

Overall video latency is affected by the entire system:

Camera → Capture → Encoding → Network → Decoding → Display

Resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, network conditions and decoder configuration can all influence the final latency.

For low-latency applications, we recommend selecting the encoder and network architecture according to the actual operating requirements rather than simply choosing the highest video resolution.

Industrial Video Over Wireless Networks

When industrial equipment cannot be connected to the monitoring station using a physical Ethernet cable, an IP wireless communication system can be used.

A typical system is:

Industrial Camera -> IP Video Encoder -> Ethernet -> Wireless IP Link -> Ethernet -> Video Decoder / Industrial PC -> Display / Monitoring Software

The video encoder handles video capture and compression, while the wireless communication system transports the IP data.

This modular architecture makes it possible to select the video encoder and wireless communication system independently.

Video Recording and Industrial Monitoring

Industrial video does not always need to be viewed in real time.

The IP video stream can also be sent to an NVR, server or computer for recording.

For example:

Camera → Encoder → Ethernet → NVR

Recorded video can be used for:

  • Production review
  • Equipment troubleshooting
  • Maintenance records
  • Quality inspection
  • Incident investigation
  • Process analysis

The appropriate recording system depends on the number of cameras, video resolution, frame rate, storage requirements and network bandwidth.

Multi-Camera Industrial Monitoring

For applications requiring multiple cameras, each camera can be connected to an encoder and assigned to the industrial IP network.

Example:

Camera 1 → Encoder 1

Camera 2 → Encoder 2

Camera 3 → Encoder 3

Camera 4 → Encoder 4

-> Ethernet Network -> Industrial PC / NVR / VMS

This architecture allows video sources to be distributed throughout a facility while maintaining centralized monitoring.

The actual number of cameras supported depends on the network bandwidth, encoder configuration, NVR/VMS capabilities and customer system architecture.

Embedded Industrial Video Systems

For equipment manufacturers, an external video encoder box may not be the ideal solution.

onVon provides compact video encoder and decoder boards that can be integrated into the customer’s own equipment.

Possible applications include:

  • Industrial machines
  • Inspection equipment
  • Robotics
  • Automation equipment
  • Vehicle systems
  • Remote monitoring equipment
  • Control systems
  • OEM equipment

The encoder board can become part of the customer’s main product instead of being installed as a separate external device.

OEM & ODM Industrial Video Solutions

Industrial customers often have requirements that cannot be met by an off-the-shelf video encoder.

onVon can evaluate customized hardware and firmware requirements.

Customization may include:

  • PCB dimensions
  • Mounting holes
  • Video interface
  • Connector type
  • Connector position
  • H.264 / H.265
  • Resolution
  • Frame rate
  • Bitrate
  • RTSP / UDP
  • Ethernet interface
  • Serial interface
  • GPIO
  • OSD
  • Firmware
  • Web interface
  • Power supply
  • Operating temperature
  • Mechanical enclosure
  • Customer branding

For projects with special requirements, our engineering team can first evaluate whether an existing platform can be modified or whether a new hardware design is required.

Industrial Video Monitoring for OEM Equipment

If you are developing industrial equipment with an integrated camera, the video system can be designed as part of the complete product.

For example:

Industrial Camera → Custom Video Encoder Board → Ethernet → Customer Main Controller → Industrial Network

This approach can reduce the size of the final equipment and provide better control over the hardware and firmware.

onVon can support customers from prototype evaluation through customized production.
