Types of DAB+ Aerial Antennas

1. Internal (indoor) aerials

   • Usually small and plug directly into a DAB radio or hi-fi system.

   • Ideal for strong signal areas.

   • Examples: telescopic aerials, wire aerials.

2. External (outdoor) aerials

   • Roof-mounted or loft-mounted.

   • Provide stronger and more stable reception.

   • Essential in weak signal areas.

3. Car aerials

   • Specifically designed for vehicles.

   • Available as windscreen-mounted stick-on aerials or replacement roof-mount aerials.

Frequency Range

• Band III (174–240 MHz) is the main frequency range used for DAB/DAB+.

• Some antennas may also support L-Band (1452–1492 MHz) in regions where it’s still in use (less common today).

Features to Look For

• Impedance: Typically 50Ω or 75Ω depending on the radio input.

• Connector type: Often SMA, F-type, or IEC depending on the device.

• Gain: Higher gain improves reception in weak-signal areas.

• Polarization: Many DAB broadcasts use vertical polarization, so the antenna should match this.

Applications

• Home radios and hi-fi systems (better reception indoors).

• Car infotainment systems (continuous reception while driving).

• Portable DAB+ radios (compact whip or telescopic aerials).
